Furthermore old 3d games don't look quite as good as they use to, (Tekken 1, anyone?) so the technology ultimately defeats itself in a cosmetic sense. Why 2D? Well, aside from budget limitations and other factors, our #1 reason is that 3D only looks as good as the technology allows it. Outside of gameplay, the world is designed in a 2D graffiti, Hip-Hop style. This is where you pick the best diss from series of choices and based on the appearance of the rapper in front of you. Think Metroid-like elements without a ton of backtracking.

An upgrade system that allows you to progress through previously blocked areas. You're encouraged to find great stuff, get stronger, and progress, plowing through whoever gets in your way! This also has an interesting feature not found in a lot of RPGs. Also, remember those lovely fetch quests you HAD to go through in order to progress? None of that foolishness. There's tons of scrolls containing unique and powerful techniques that you can equip for any character you want. Instead of the dreaded "dungeon crawling", I want the player to actually be excited about going into a dungeon.
